In Your Face; And Your Mouth.

Hey there my Ministers of Sillly. This is a notice I'm forwarding from my friend Bubbles. She's constantly helping people out and she could use some payback. Her raffle here sounds like a fun time but more over, it will do good things which is my mantra for the upcoming year. Read on and see if you like to eat. I sure as h do. (I'm also converting my swearing to initials) Contact me and I'll put you in touch with Bubbles.

Hi Everyone!

For those who don't know, I am currently sitting on the board for Turning Point, which is a transitional home for homeless women and men while getting back on their feet. They typically stay at Turning Point for 9-12 months where they get employment opportunities and lessons on managing money, how to grocery shop and plan out meals for the week, etc. These are survival skills for them however it's something we naturally do on a day to day.

And every Holiday Season they do a raffle called "YEAR on the HOUSE" The winner receives 52 gift certificates from restaurants throughout the LA area. The GC's range from $100 to the Lobster, Ruth's Chris Steak House, to $25 pizza hut. However the idea is you will have dinner on the house for an entire year. Not a bad prize!

Tickets are $10 each
$50 for 6

100% of the raffle tickets sales goes directly to Turning Point.
The drawing will occur on December 9th.

Please let me know if you are interested.

Alice Walker's Letter To Obama.

This is an open letter from Alice Walker (author of 'The Color Purple') to the President-Elect Obama.

It starts with: "Dear Brother President-elect, "You have no idea, really, how profound this moment is for us. Us being the black people of the Southern United States. You think you know, because you are thoughtful, and you have studied our history. But seeing you delivering the torch so many others carried, only to be brought down before igniting the flame of justice and of law, is almost more than the heart can bear. And yet, this observation is not intended to burden you, for you are of a different time, and, indeed, because of all the relay runners before you, this is a different America. It is really only to say: Well done. We knew, through all the generations, that you were with us, in us, the best of the spirit of Africa and the Americas. Knowing this, that you would actually appear, someday, was part of our strength. Seeing you take your rightful place, based solely on your wisdom, stamina and character, is a balm for the weary warriors of hope, that was previously only sung about.

"I would advise you to remember that you did not create the disaster that the world is experiencing, and you alone are not responsible for bringing the world back to balance. A primary responsibility that you do have, however, is to cultivate happiness in your own life. To make a schedule that permits sufficient time of rest and play with your gorgeous wife and lovely daughters. Not to mention your brave and precious grandmother, who, of course, as we know, went on. We are used to seeing men in the White House soon become juiceless and as white-haired as the building; we notice their wives and children looking strained and stressed. They soon have smiles so lacking in joy that they remind us of scissors. This is no way to lead. Nor does your family deserve this fate. One way of thinking about all this is: It is so bad now that there is no excuse not to relax. From your happy, relaxed state, you can model real success, which is only what so many people in the world want. They may buy endless cars and houses and furs and gobble up all the attention and space they can manage, or barely manage, but this is because it is not clear to them yet that success is truly an inside job. That it is within the reach of everyone.

"I would further advise you not to take on other people's enemies. Most damage that others do us is out of fear, humiliation and pain. Those feelings occur in all of us, not just in those of us who profess a certain religious or racial devotion. We must, all of us, learn actually not to have enemies, but only confused adversaries who are ourselves in disguise. It is understood by all that you are the commander in chief of the United States and are sworn to protect our beloved country; this we understand, completely." That is, he will soon be the commander in chief. "However, as my mother used to say, quoting a Bible with which I often fought, 'hate the sin, but love the sinner.' There must be no more crushing of whole communities, no more torture, no more dehumanizing as a means of ruling a people's spirit. This has already happened to people of color, poor people, women, children. We see where this leads, where it has led.

"A good model of how to 'work with the enemy' internally is presented by the Dalai Lama, in his endless caretaking of his soul as he confronts the Chinese government that invaded Tibet. Because, finally, it is the soul that must be preserved, if one is to remain a credible leader. All else might be lost; but when the soul dies, the connection to earth, to peoples, to animals, to rivers, to mountain ranges, purple and majestic, also dies. And your smile, with which we watch you do gracious battle with unjust characterizations, distortions and lies, is that expression of healthy self-worth, spirit and soul, that, kept happy and free and relaxed, can find an answering smile in all of us, lighting our way, and brightening the world.

"We are the ones—we are the ones we have been waiting for."

-Alice Walker

Smile. The Queen now has an IPod.

Isn't it amazing the toys that we collect to make the life a better place? I would be lost without my moisturizers and Henkel knives. They're soft and sharp in all the right places. I know people that would be in a spiritual Siberia without their coffee press and isotoner slippers. My Uncle can't go without his WSJ daily fix. What we all can agree on is personal music space.

How would we fly across countries in overpriced airline seats? How would we press on in our daily offerings at the gym? Please don't make me have to talk to the person ahead of me in line at Trader Joe's. My sunglasses are on, my earbuds are in and I have effectively checked out of my physical space. Do not disturb. And do no disturbing. The privacy factor is totally redesigned with your personal music system. Where would we be without this?

Last month the Royal Monarch to the British Empire, Queen Elizabeth II got her first IPod. The loneliness of being a ruler is slightly more bearable today. Thank you Apple!

Facebook has ruined my life.

I thought all the ghosts had left. I thought Halloween came once a year. I had no idea that I could still be scared by the darkness. Facebook has torn the scab off my psyche.

I have been found by my youth, my twenties and everyone I owe money to from thirties. I have been amazed by stories and people's abilities to 'pick right up' from whence we last spoke. This little networking website has me completely in it's mesmer. I'm able to chat with anyone I wish to in any time I want to. Convenience and conversation. I can share the slides of my vacations. I can read and write. I can even become a better Zombie. And the fact that one of my most anti social friends brought me into it is ironical. Now even my sister is on it. I can stalk my nieces' activities (there's reason to be scared again). I can even be part of a mobalized grass roots movement protesting Hate. Facebook has found me.

The real fright is following. A picture from the FIRST dance I ever went to. With MB, I'm guessing it's Spring 1982 and the dance at the Silas Deane Middle School.
Thanks for sharing MB. I'm beside myself. (leaves computer to go take xanax)

Why Gay Marriage is Wrong.

This is from my friend Brady, who takes it (my abuse) like a champ. I'm torn between liking 3 or 4 best.

10 Reasons Why Gay Marriage is Wrong!

ShareToday at 1:43am

Copied from elsewhere on the web.

1) Being gay is not natural. And real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning, tattoos, piercings and silicon breasts...

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay.In the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior.People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract. Lamps are next.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all.Hence why women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed. And we can't let the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. So therefore, gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our population isn't out of control, our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children.Since, of course, straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home.Which is exactly why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms.Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

The Daily Show; Vote No On 8.

Election Day.

What a ride it's been. I hope all my readers and dreamers go out today to vote down the costliest measure in US history. The Enemy has spent 72 million dollars to deny me my basic civil rights. A favorite blog of mine out of NYC, Joemygod.blogspot.com reports they have even resorted to skywriting their hateful message. Holy Elphaba!
I have no immediate plans to marry, I don't even know if I'm the marrying kind. I know that discrimination is wrong and hate is old school. Let's change this nation for the better and put hate back where it belongs; in the bedroom.
Some things to think about in defeating the haters of Prop 8:
Arrange furniture, not marriages.
Do it for Ellen and Portia. Melissa and Tami. Tom and Katie.
You have a right to better weddings.
The Macarena ends here.
No more rubber chicken.
Flowers. Flowers. Flowers.
I'll show you Bridezilla.
The standard of dancing at weddings has now been raised.
Make a hairdresser happy.
Tux to Tucks.
Please get out there and vote NO On 8. We've come this far and have redone the closet. There's no turning back.

Peace.
